My name is Troy Powledge. A friend of mine
who flies RC airplanes has developed an engine for these planes and
needs an ignition system for them. He ask me if I would design one but I
know very little about them. I would really appreciate it if anyone
point me in the right direction to gather more info about these things.

face picon face

Which type of engine are you talking about? I assume 4 stroke with spark
type ignition, right? Most other types do not require an active ignition
system, the fuel is volatile enough to explode under the pressure and
temperature conditions which occur in a hot cylinder head(these engines use
glow plugs, which are just heating elements which are only used to start
the engine). Sorry, off hand I don't have any page to give you information.
But, I can give you some manufacturer names and I'm sure other piclisters
will have more info:

O.S. (really major manufactuer)
Zenoah (They specialze in Ignition engines)
Cheetah (also make many ignition engines)
U.S. Engines

I'm not sure of URLs for any of these, though, and I'm even more unsure of
which may have useful info on igntion systems.

Good luck,

Hvae you had a look at:

This is a programable igntion system using the good old 16C(F)84.  There is
some code available of an earlier prototype device which makes interesting

Go to and look in their web site directory.  You will
probably be able to find several ignition systems, some even done with a

[Piclister's - I apologize if you receive some extra garbage in this email.
We just switched to !@#$%^ Lotus Notes and I haven't figured out how to
