Hi ,
This is the fisrt time I use this but I've been following some time. I
finally receive a PIC START PLUS and want to convert some code from PC asm
to PIC asm, its about driving a ISD25120 sound chip, in the PC we use a
interrupt line and the fast forward cue message seeking to find and
specific message in the chip but we always had problems with the noise that
appears to us very high, we use as an output amplifier tha LM386 and drive
an speker of 8 ohms, has someone worked before with this chip and with a
PIC and if so have obtained and good SNR, please could anyone give us a
hand, we're just figuring out how to put to work the dozens of 16C84 we
bought, we have a lot of dudes and want some help, also does anyone have
experince with with a OPTREX LCD DMF50140 with a Toshiba controller, the
T6963C, we really had a bad time making it to work with an interface to the
PC and wonder if someone could make it work with a PIC.
       Any help is welcome, gracias

    Rafael,
I can't help with the ISD stuff, but for help on the T6963C,
and a test circuit for running it from a PIC16C84 see my web page:-

    ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/steve_lawther/glcdinfo.htm

Email me if you want the asm code for the test circuit. I am holding
it back from my web page, as I want to add some more test screens to
    it.

We just completed a project with the ISD2590.  We use the '44 driving shift
registers which address the ISD chip and then use a Philips amplifier
(TDA7052?) to drive a speaker.  We had difficulty at first with the PD pin
(popping) and finally got information from ISD that the chip does not
behave like the old ISD series.  We struggled for a while then we worked
the bugs out.  We also use PWM for the volume control and make sure the
volume is down before we address the chip and then turn the volume up.  We
are using it to play back 1 of 65 messages and not  the fast forward modes
as you describe.  One word of caution, if you cannot guarantee a good power
up reset, you might consider a recording of "nothing" at address 00000000
and then an EOM at 000000xx so the chip will accidently play nothing and
then see the EOM and stop.  We struggled with the reset issue and was
forced to add a pull-up capacitor to yank on a pin with VCC rise.
