I know this is an already discussed thread but could anyone give me
a simple answer to this question.
Is it possible to use a PIC to control a IDE harddisk?
I got some 1.3 inch 40 meg harddisk and I want to use it.

Octavio,
somewhere in the net  you can found the IDE control lines, commands, timing and
specification.
LMK, I am interested too.
TIA & ciao.

You should be able to if it has an IDE interface.  Just duplicate the ISA
bus structure and send data (slowly <G>) to the drive and it _should_ work.

I haven't used the info yet, but I have a copy of the ata spec on my ftp
site - ftp://ftp.eskimo.com/u/n/nexus/embedded/

ATA docs can be found at:

ftp://fission.dt.wdc.com/pub/standards/ata

I was thinking of doing something with IDE disks myself, but apart
from sifting through the standards, I have not done anything else
yet...

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Ian.
