Click on Configure and set the baud & bit stuff to match the com routines you programmed into your PIC (Whoops! You did do that first..) Now the undocumented trick. Several (not all) of the changes you can make in the Configure menu don't take effect until you exit and restart the hyperterminal session. I can never remember which ('cause I don't use it, really, except to tell customers how to check our equipment is connected) so I always just exit and restart when I make any change.
