I am new to PICS and would like to learn how to program them.  I have
purchased a programmer & a UV eraser.  Does anyone out there know of a
really good place to get information on the procedures to program
PICS?   I have looked at Microchips web page & down loaded the programs
but find it very confusing.  What are all the different programs for?
Basically I need a beginners step by step instructions.

On an other topic.   Can someone tell me which of the following
Microprocessors is fastest.

1    The new Basic Stamp  BS2SX-IC  (50 Mhz)
2    Microchips  PIC16C73A

Hi Bill,
The BS2SX-IC would use a Scenix uC(shortform for "microcontroler") which
is a faster and improved rip-off of the early PIC 16C5xx series.

As you are new to both, you would probably be far more productive
initially on the BS' product due to it's reprogramable memory and
B.A.S.I.C.(beginners all purpose instruction code) language.
There are two large drawbacks however....
1) BASIC compiles into very longwinded code, therefore as soon as you
try to do something unique that the BS manufacturers have not already
programmed for you you will pay the penalty of slow program operation.
2) You will be paying the BS manufacturers taxes, markup, R&D costs,
marketing etc as a component of the BS2SX-IC sell price.

By using Assembler or C language with a microcontroler you are able to
get the maximum performance from the minimum component cost, the
disadvantage is more time is required, both in learning and in on going
program writing. C and Assembler are like building with small blocks
instead of large objects, you get full control of the finished product.
