I'm reading (well, my pic) CM8870 DTMF decoder output via four
pins that represent each digit. There's a control pin (TOE) that
maintains the four bit port in hiz when pulled low.
My question is: Can I use these pins to drive something else
while they are still connected to CM8870 keeping TOE low?

Should not be a problem, so long as those loads won't bother the CM8870
when it's in output mode - so they probably should be fairly high
impedance loads, and not bothered by "transients" i.e. when TOE is high!
Drive CMOS IC's not LEDs directly, IOW <G>
