Hi eveybody!
I'm very new with pics, I had just bought a 16c84 and I just made
some simple programs. I'm using the David Tait driver and the Pip-02
software.
My BIG problem is that from one day to the other I couldn't write the
device any more!. Well, the pip-02 say: Error programming Fuses, and every
time y read de device, I get different data and the code protection turns on,
but I have never tuned it on!. I can only erase it, but I can't program
fuses.
I alredy checked the programer many times, and anfortunately, I don't
have anothe 16c84 to try.(they are realy hard to get here in Salta,Argentina)
Is it possible that this problem is because of the code protection?,
in that case, is there any way to reset the fuses?
I'll be waiting for your help, thanks

                                               Martin

This looks like when my programmer broke the line to pin 4 on the
chip. This pin is for the programming voltage. Try to measure it with a
scope. If you suspect that the code protection is the sinner; if it
was, you should have got the same data every time you read it.
It is probably the programmer (or perhaps the serial port..) that is
the problem.

Italy i pay 18.000 lire more or less (12 US $) i don't know if it's too
much, but if you need it write me.

DigiKey offers 16C84's via mail order for $6.50. Their number is 800-344-4539
or FAX an order to 218-681-3380. It isn't the best price but it is damn
convenient.

Do you have any idea on how to get a digi-key order outside US. I saw the web
but isn't so clear for me, this people talk about U$S 5 to send the part and
then U$S 5 more for overseas, but seems that they deliver the part to a third
that must deliver the part to you, so the cost can be amayzing!

These parts are cheaper in Buenos Aires (8 to 11 U$S depending of the humor
of the man at the shop).

I order from Digikey's home page to Australia on a regular basis, but I
find that you can add $30 to $40 USD per order, as they always pack
everything in a large carton and charge Air Mail prices for this. They
even send you 5 invoices, yes 5!

If you want small quantities of 84's outside of the US, drop me a
message.

Hello all

I am looking for any web sites that would be of help (tutorials etc.) to
me in the area of writing code for PICS.  You see I am new to this.   I
have mess around a bit with BasicStamps and Basic programming, but have
zero experience with pics.  I have the book Easy PIC'n but I am looking
for all the additional help I can get.  Any info for beginners would be
greatly appreciated.

Hi!!
Can anyone tell me what's wrong with this part of my program??

; Wait for doors closed AND doors locked.
WAIT2           MOVF PORTA, W           ; get port A into W
               ANDLW b'00000100'       ; check RA0(doors closed), RA1(doors
locked) and RA2(ignition off)
BTFSC STATUS,Z          ; skip when result is zero
               GOTO WAIT2

As you see am I taking porta into W, and it is supposed to go forward in
my program only if porta is 00000100 but that isn't the truth...
It's always continuing with the program and never goes back to WAIT2.
I have also tried with SUBLW but that didn't work either... With the
SUBLW function did I also try with BTFSS instead of BTFSC and then did
it loop in WAIT2 for ever..
I'm glad if anyone can help me with this.

WAIT2           MOVF PORTA, W           ; get port A into W
               andlw   b'00000111'
               SUBLW   B'OOOOO100'
BTFSS STATUS,Z          ; skip when result is zero
                GOTO WAIT2

If W= 00000100 and you 'AND' it with 00000100 the result will be
00000100, not 0.
Use AND for masking, the way I did it, is that it will only leave RA0,
RA1, RA2 bits in W, then you subtract b'00000100' from it.
Zero flag will be SET if the result of the subtract is zero, so you test
for set and skip.

Hope it helps

That indicates that RA2 is always set, since that is the only bit your
mask is looking for.

Methinks the code you *want* is:

WAIT2   MOVF    PORTA, W        ; get port A into W
       ANDLW   b'00000111      ; Test RA0, RA1, RA2
       XORLW   b'00000100'     ; RA0 = 0, RA1 = 0, RA2 = 1
SKPZ                    ; skip when match (BTFSS STATUS, Z)
       GOTO    WAIT2

Hello Andreas,

If You want to compare the value in a port (or any other register) with a
known value and only act if they are equal You should use XOR instead of
AND. XOR sets the ZERO flag if all bits are exactly the same. Use AND if
You want to check individual bits one at a time.

The code *looks* OK to me so I'll suggest a few other things which
can't be tested directly by looking at this code segment but which
may be the problem.

i    You say this code is only meant to progress if PORTA = 00000100
Actually the test you are doing is is xxxxx1xx as the AND eliminates
the other bits.
This means that if RA2 is high the code will proceed.
ie IF the ignition is ON (1) you will proceed even if the doors are
open or unlocked.
Perhaps the comment relate to an earlier program version which has
now changed.

IF you wanted it to proceed only if ALL of these 3 were HIGH then you
would need to do something like

WAIT2           MOVF PORTA, W           ; get port A into W
               ANDLW b'00000111'       ; check RA0(doors closed),
RA1(doors
locked) and RA2(ignition off)
EORLW b'11111111'            ; complement all bits
BTFSS STATUS,Z               ; skip when result is
zero
               GOTO WAIT2

Presumably
       Doors closed           RA0 = 1
       Doors locked          RA1 = 1
       Igntion on                RA2 = 1

If the above ISN'T correct then you need to rethink (I think ;-))

ii    Have you correctly defined STATUS for your processor (an
unlikely error)
iii    Have you correctly defined Z for your processor (another
unlikely error)

It helps to spell unsubscribble, er, "unsubscribe" correctly.

BTW, what are the Lotto numbers on November 28 since you are apparently
