As for the programmer, I would lean toward the ProPic2.
If you want to build your own programmer, as I did, they
provide the schematic. Or you can buy the programmer already built.
I am really happy with the programmer and thier software. I think if you
build the programmer, the software is about $40. Well worth it.
And Octavio is on this list should problems arise.
I don't work for them, I am just very satisfied with the system
