I can see the web, but get no response from http://www.google.com . DNS
lookup seems to work, but the browser times out.

Is it working where you are?

Very strange! I've tried two Windoze machines and two Linux machines on
our DSL. They see all the world except Google. I get a good DNS lookup, it
then just times out while trying to connect. I wonder if this has anything
to do with the Level3 peering dispute? I'm using cyberonic DSL, which
resells Covad.

So try pointing to a different DNS server.

Google also uses intelligent DNS that returns IP of machines
closer to you.
e.g. If I ask for google.com, I ALWAYS get redirected to a google.ca
machine since it recognizes that my IP is from Canada.

I've seen Google "disappear" several time sin the last few weeks -
usually for a maximum of a few minutes. I have a number of different
DNS servers in my regular desktop's DNS list after being caught out by
a bad DNS server previously. .

Google/Gmail/Google-groups all have some problems recently.

Not really scared since Yahoo and Baidu are working.

If one does not want to go to a country specific web page, I think
there is a link under that (http://www.google.com/ncr) will go
to the google.com page.

Regards,
Xiaofan
