Peter Crowcroft of DIY in Hong Kong, wants four people to put a new kit
together.
All he wants in return is feedback on the design and operation.

He also has a single Newfound PP1 Programmer for sale.
See:
http://www.dontronics.com/newfound.html

The kits in question are the:
P16PRO PIC programmer by Bojan Dobaj.
SOFTWARE works under DOS, WINDOS 3.1 and WINDOWS 95.

Range of PIC's Covered
PIC12C5xx, PIC14000, PIC16C554, PIC16C556, PIC16C558, PIC16C61,
PIC16C62, PIC16C62A, PIC16CR62,
PIC16C63, PIC16C64, PIC16C64A, PIC16CR64, PIC16C65, PIC16C65A, PIC16C66,
PIC16C67, PIC16C620,
PIC16C621, PIC16C622, PIC16C710, PIC16C71, PIC16C711, PIC16C72,
PIC16C73, PIC16C73A, PIC16C74,
PIC16C74A, PIC16C76, PIC16C77, PIC16F83, PIC16CR83, PIC16C84, PIC16F84,
PIC16CR84, PIC16C923,
PIC16C924, PIC16C642, PIC16C662, PIC16C715

Now I believe Peter supplies the PCB and components (not cables, not
wall warts etc.), but this doesn't include ZIF sockets of course. You
will need to verify what you do get from Peter for this deal.

First four applicants only. Please don't contact me on this.

If I'm one of the first 4 out of the 1000 people who want to assemble
a kit for you (:-)) I'd love to have one. Don's message appears to be
"only" an hour old so maybe the other 996 haven't replied yet.

I'm in far off new Zealand which may or may not be part of your
target sales area.
I am an electrical engineer with ??? years experience (47 years
young) including assembly of many kits over the years while mumbling
about what they've done wrong and should have done different.

Let me know if you're interested in me being a trial assembler.

It must be the way I hold my lips when I type.

Hey guys it's not a response to the list, or to me, it's to:
"Peter J. Crowcroft" <peterEraseMEspam.....kitsrus.com>
I'll forward this one on to Peter also.

**** Pretty Please ****  no more to the list.

It's like 'me too' all over again.

Thanks Don...

Hi,

I built and now use the Dobaj's programmer (with a slightly, but VERY
important modification). What can I do for you?

Oh dear !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I knew when I saw this that someone incompetent was going to post to
the list but I didn't know it would be me :-).

Sorry!

Murphy strikes again!

I used "reply" and then "carefully" deleted PICLIST from the To
address and pasted in Peter's. Why this then went to both is a
mystery to me. I guess I should guess my outbox before going on
line - (paranoia rules, OK).

Thanks folks, Peter had 10 applicants in the first few hours, so he
appreciates your efforts, they are now gone.

He still also has the single Newfound PP1 Programmer for sale. This is a
production quality programmer.

Russell, directly to Peter at the address below thanks.
He isn't on this list and this has been the first day I have been on the
list this this month.
I have trouble getting through the 100 odd messages these days. :-)

It's nearly two months since I posted that message, and Peter ended up
sending out more than twice that amount of kits because of the response
from the list, so he was pleased with my efforts, however only two
people have returned feedback to him. Both of these people are very
recognizable PIClisters, so I ***KNOW*** they did it more for a bit of
kit building fun/enjoyment/adventure, rather than having a real need for
a programmer.

What I would like to know is what happened to the other kits.
Did they:
1) Get lost in the mail.
2) Fail to work.
3) Other.
4) All of the above.
5) Goto 1

Good, bad, or otherwise, I feel it would be polite to respond to

He sent eight and got two reports?  Eerrk.

I built and tested the K96 programmer he sent me within a day or so of
receipt.  And I admit I've been using it in preference to the DT-100
programmer since, because it is smaller and leaves lots of room around
the socket.  Space for my fingers to wander in while positioning a chip.

(Then I just hold it down with finger force into the machine pin socket
while programming ... not conventional, but I haven't had a problem
yet.  ;-)

I sent _loads_ of feedback, which he was most appreciative of.

Yes, this is true ... but in everything I do, I worry when I haven't got
a backup of some sort.  So I had another reason.  ;-)

If you ever want me to review one of your products to an extreme level
of detail, let me know.  Quality review is one of my areas of
expertise.  Comes from working in an ISO-900x Engineering environment
... and being very PICky.

I'll stand on my head for an 18 pin ZIF socket.  ;-)

Thanks James,
I must apologize to the others. I have just found out that there was a
delay in sending the kits out, so with global postage etc., perhaps in
some cases they haven't even arrived, which is the case with at least
one person that replied to me in private mail.

Yes I jumped the gun just a little. Sorry guys. :-(

Hey what's this about standing on your head James???
You touch the 84 on the machine pin socket to program it, what do you do
the other end, or is that where the ZIF comes in?

Don:

I was one of the ones who requested a kit too late.  I offered my services as
an ASQC certified Quality Engineer with nearly 20 years experience.  I would
have gladly evaluated this project with a professional aspect for free.

Oh, well maybe next time if Peter ever has a next time.  I would not give away
kits if this is the response I would expect.  Maybe he just needs a core group
of picsters who really want to contribute something the rest of us will
benefit from.
