'fuses'

I had a bit of a crash, and had to reload Nigel Goodwin's wpicprog2.
I'm using DonTronic's DT001 with a DT101 and Mplab's editor.
I now notice, (which I'm sure didn't appear before) at the end of the
programming action, there is a very, very, brief message "Blowing fuses
to 0x11"
It then displays the time taken, as usual, and exits, as usual, and the
programmed PIC seems to work OK.  "Seems" being the operative word!  Is
there a problem lurking therewithin, just waiting to bite me down the
track?
Suggestions would be appreciated, as would a pointer to information on
the subject of fuses, which has now been brought to my attention.
       Thank you all.
       Howard.

Hi Howard,

My program always sets the fuses (as I'm sure almost all other programs
do), if you don't actually alter them yourself my software uses internal
default values. The fuses basically set the type of oscillator to be
used , the 'power up timer', code protection bits, and probably a few
more - I've just got back from the pub and the brains a bit poor:-).
