I am trying to run an emulator from MPLAB on Penthium Pro (Windows NT).
But with any combinations of jumpers on a PC card program doesn't see a
card (gives a message "There is no emulator card on this address")
Does anybody have this experience? Will appreciate any help.

In order for NT to be as robust as it is,  it MUST NOT allow you access to
I/O ports without a device driver;  even in a DOS box.  For this reason most
security keys, emulators or even prom programmers running off the parallel
port (Take Note ICE Technologies), will _NOT_ function.  This may be
annoying but it keeps the more common viruses at bay. (This is a good thing)

Put pressure on Microchip to provide a device driver for MPLAB.  For now set
up your system for dual boot and run Windows 3.11.

regards,

John

The current PICMASTER software drivers for MPLAB access the ISA port
addresses directly.  This is not allowed by the Windows NT operating
system.  Until the drivers are made "Windows NT friendly," you cannot
use the PICMASTER on Windows NT.  We suggest that you use a dual boot
system for now, and run MPLAB PICMASTER under Windows 95.

Work is being done currently at Microchip to add Windows NT drivers
for PICMASTER.  No date has yet been set for their release.

This is a good thing.  One of the features that makes NT a
real operating system that will stay up for weeks at a time.

This is the first that I've heard that Microchip will actually
support their development tools under NT.  Is this an official
position or just informational?

Also, please do an NT driver for the PICstart Plus.  I first
asked for this at the seminar last year when I got my Plus.

My advice: MPLAB is not supported under Windows NT. I got it to work, but
had enough problems that I have switched to Windows 95.

Cheers,

I had problems single stepping my emulator on a 90 MHZ pentium. These
problems went away when I moved it to a 20 MHz 486sx system. I have since
found out there is a fix to the emulator thet makes speed sensitive problems
go away. This may be a problem here.
