Have a look at the 16C505. It has 1kROM, 41 bytes of RAM.The two clinchers are :
1) An internal oscillator (4MHz)
2) In-circuit serial programming (the only 16C5X with this ability)
I don't know what they cost though.
An interesting application for this chip is the replacement of 16 pin
logic chips. I'll have to verify, but I suspect one may be able to
power the chip in the traditional 8=GND, 16=Vdd way.
