Michael, The CCS compiler ( http://www.ccsinfo.com ) supports 16's and they are currently looking for testers for their 17's support. I'm not affiliated with them, just a <mostly> happy customer. We will be including support for the PIC17 with our compiler in the near future. "Near" means it's close enough that it's hard to be more precise. All existing customers will get a free upgrade to include the PIC17 support.
