'Cheap Sonar Sensor?'

I am in need of a low powered, cheap sonar sensor to take the distance of
objects. I saw a diagram in the Basic Stamp App note #12 (parallax) but
it seems to need quite a few parts. Does anyone know of a sensor that is
simpler? There was a diagram posted here I believed but I must have missed
it. If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Well, there's a fairly simple DIY sonar circuit in Gordon McComb's "Robot
Builder's Bonanza."
