'Cheap, reliable PIC sources in the UK?'

Where's the best place to get PICs from in the UK?
I'd sent off a cheque to HB Electronics for half a dozen 16C74s, but by
the time it got there they'd sold out of them - and they say there's a 6
week lead time on getting hold of any more...
I know Maplin & RS have stock, but at 30 ukp & 25 ukp respectively,
they're a bit of a rip off..
Any suggestions? (preferably from a company that doesn't insist you
open up an account with them, & takes VISA)

Hi Jim,
You could try electronic services (they used to be Farnell I think). Their
catalog thunked (and I mean thunkedd) onto my desk the other day. They list
a 16C74A/JW at 12.10 each (ex. vat)
They have a web page at http://www.electronic-services.com/ or you can phone
them on 01279 626777
Hope this helps.
Keith.

Jim,
Thet are not particularly cheap, but Farnell in Leeds sell PICs to
anyone with a bit of plastic and postage is free (or rather built in
to the price).
Try 0113 263 6311.
HB have been PIC disties for a while, but Polar were the number 1.
Polar were dropped by Microchip and I understand that HB have picked
up most of the business. This may have put some stress on their
stock levels. (I'm being charitable). I phoned them to place an
order for some PICs, some Maxim parts and some other stuff I
forget about a week ago. They had no stock of any part I was after.
4-6 week delivery on all parts. They won't be my first port of
call next time.

Mike Watson

Farnell Electronic Services (NOT Farnell Components) have a small number =
in stock (about 35 I see). Depends on which variant of the 16C74 you are =
looking for. They have 16C74-20/L in stock, I could check for others for =
you if you want. I am not sure what they will charge you, I only have =
the under 1000 quantity price. Should be less than 25 pounds I would =
have thought. I could do them for you at around 12 pounds each for small =
numbers, but I don't handle VISA yet.
