'Cant Program 12c508 Config bits'

Im trying to program a 12c508 using MPASM (latest version) to assemble
the code, then burning the chip with a Parallax 16cxx programmer, using a
home-made adaptor, V4.2 firmware and SPEP v4.6. The code programs ok but the
config never changes from its default state, no matter what settings I put in
SPEP. The config information appears at the end of the hex file but I think
SPEP ignores it. Does anyone have an idea why SPEP cant change the config
bits?
Because the rest of the code programs ok I dont think there is any problem with
the adaptor.
Thanks for any help,
Jerome Knapp

As a beginner i met the same problem. Try this solution:
- download SPEP 4.7
- MPASM produces the .hex file.
- load the .hex file in SPEP.
- change configuration as you want it.
- save the file as .obj file
next time you load the .obj file all setting appear to be saved
