I've tried to get AN589 off of the MicroChip Web page
and the thing tells me that it can't find the file.  I also
don't seem to be able to ftp directly to the site (at
least not for long ... it drops the connection!).

I can get the other Application notes ... can someone help
me with this?!

Thanks                  Albert

The Microchip Bulletin Board has a copy of all the application notes. To
access it you have to connect to a Compuserve node near you. Set your modem
to 8N1. When the connection is made press <enter>. As the settings are not
correct for Compuserve, you will get a few lines of garbage, press <+ enter>
and you should get to the Host Name prompt. Type "MCHIPBBS", and you should
then be in ! ( I had to try several times, so perseverence pays). The file
you want is AN589.Zip.
The bad news is that the file only contains the Serial Programming Routines
source code, so you will have to get a copy of the article text itself from
the latest Embedded Controller Handbook.
Hope this is of some help,

I messed up.  I didn't zip the file so it was there but as a .ps file not a
.zip file and the web page couldn't get it for you.  I've fixed it now and
you should be ok.

Also, I can assure you our ftp site is first class all the way so it's
probably something on the network that is the problem or something on your
end with your modem, pc, or most likely uart.  Our site is capable of very
high speed transfers and sometimes locally overloads fifos of machines that
are used to low performance web sites.
