Hi,

have a look at

www.microchip.com/10/Tools/PICmicro/Program/picstart/Psf15000/index.
htm

There you can get the hex-file for programming an updated version of the
PIC used in you PICStart Plus.

But the well known problem occurs: what was first, the chicken or the egg.
In other words: "Do you have a second programmer ?"

Regards

Thema: PICSTART PLUS firmware UPDATE

Hello there ...

I use now MPLAB 4.00 IDE for PIC projects with the PICSTART PLUS
development programmer.

When i program a device i get the message:

"An updated version of PICSTART Plus firmware is available, containing
enhancements and new device support."

Currently i don't need new device support but i was wondering what the
enhancements are so i can see if it's worth to get updated.

Where can i get such upgrade ?? is it software downloadable ? ...

No problem - you use the old version, which works fine for the 17CX
chip used in the Picstart Plus

Why does he need a second programmer? He can use the picstart plus
to program the new firmware - QED.

Well, I don4t think he need a second programmer, IMHO he
need a second PIC17C?? to program the new firmware into.
than replace the "old" PIC17?? with the new programmed one.

my 0.02 Euro

Kind regards

The trick here is to buy a JW version and program it .... then keep the old
chip to reprogram the JW in the future! I also keep a copy of the old
software to run from diskette. Works for me!
