"There has been an alarming increase in the number of things I know nothing
about."
---Anomalous

While many quotations may be found that are attributed to "Anonymous",
only a few have survived that can be conclusively tied to his younger
brother "Anomalous".

Born in ancient Greece, these two boys grew to manhood in the traditional
way. Anonymous was the more talkative of the two, and as he had a habit
of expounding at length while etching graffiti into the sandstone wall
surrounding his village, many of his pithy sayings have found their way
into modern usage. Anonymous was a conformist lad, for all his oratory,
and his looks and mode of dress were so similar to others that he was
often confused for them by villagers.

Anomalous was "a little bit odd", a trait we would today describe as
"eccentric" if he was rich enough. Like his brother, he could often be
found near sandstone walls, but he tended to talk *to* them rather than
*near* them. His habit of counting things, as evidenced by the quote above,
was another of his oddities. While he had a limited education, he kept a
careful tally of those subjects on which he had not yet been educated. As
the count rose, his concern grew as well.

Lost to the mists of history, these two had a profound influence on modern
thought and literature. Indeed, there are many today who, in a gesture of
respect, will sign their own works "Anonymous" in homage.
