    Hello PICsters,

       There was a question a while back asking about alternatives to
    PIC's.  I have come across a good URL that lists 22 different vendors
    with 64 different 8 bit microprocessor families across 23 categories.
    Unfortunately, Cost is not one of the categories.

    URL= http://www.embedded.com/guides/8bit.htm

    Regards,

It is a National part you can access their WEB site at
http://www.national.com  This part is not recommended for new designs
and my actually be out of production now. I have printed material here
on it if all you need is some reference material.

The COP series is by National Semiconductor.  Check out their web site.  I
have the newest COP8 data book here but it doesn't go into the COP4 series.
Actually, I just checked and found that I also have their 1989
Microcontroller Handbook which does list the COP400 series.  You may still
be able to get a copy of that book from a distributor or from NS themselves.
