PTM: I think it is a bit expensive compared to PIC, that can be programmed
with a homebrew 5$ prommer. I'm expectin to find a similar solution.

solutions have been there for some time already!

BlowIt2051: simplest homebrew programmer for 89C2051: 2 transistors into LPT
port,
BA1FB:      simplest homebrew programmer for AVR: wires only to LPT port.

The new Atmel AVR devices can be programmed in-circuit via the printer
port with a virtually zero component programmer (one capacitor). It does
need a 5 V power supply. Another programmer doesn't need an external
power supply, but does need four diodes, to get its power from the port.
