'17C42 tools ?'

I've just started working on a project based around the 17C42. I assumed
that I'd be able to use the same development tools as I've used in the
past for 16C71 projects but I've just realised that MPSIM doesn't
support the 17C42. Is there another similar tool that I've overlooked
and if not, what is the development process for the 17C42 ?
Your help would be appreciated.

The microchip tools for the 17C42 are on sics.se in /pub/mchipsoft/asm17
A special programmer will be needed if you need to program the internal
eprom, but I believe the factory default mode for the chip is "microprocessor"
so the code can go into two external eproms.
Hope this helps

p.s. if you need a copy I could e-mail it to you (if your mailer supports "big" messages)

Just one caveat for you folks working with the 17C42 in microprocessor mode.
I haven't done it yet (but planning to) but from what I was reading of the
data sheet, in an erased state the watchdog timer is enabled with no
prescaler on the 17C42. That means that in 18ms or so that the chip will reset
if you do not execute CLRWDT command.
Just something to be aware of.
