My 16B1 programmer suddently quit. Yes, I know it's obsolete. Actually, I
have a PicStart Plus also, so it's not a matter of being out of business.
But I do use it, and would like to fix it.

It communicates with the computer OK. It has +5 and +12. The POWER LED is
on and the ACTIVE LED lights when it's supposed to.

But it doesn't program, and it reads programmed chips as blank. Anyone have
a schematic for it? Any ideas on where to start?

Unfortunately my notes are hasty handwritten scrawls so I can't
provide a schemetic but I sort of know how it is wired.

I can help if you can provide the following info.

Firstly does it fail on both 12-bit core and 14-bit core parts?
Please specify what pinouts fail.

For 18-pin parts:
During a read is there VPP on ZIF pin 4 and Vdd on pin 14?

For 28-pin parts:
During a read is there VPP on ZIF pin 28 and Vdd on pin 2?

I can provide much more info once you have narrowed it down for me.

Regards

Jim

Jim, I have just done it.
I'm not at home now, but next monday I can send the schematic to you.
It is in Orcad format. Can you read it ?

Can you make it a gif file. I am not sure I can import orcad into protel but
it would be handy to have especially as my notes are so basic.

Yes but the planned upgrade looks like it won't happen as I never received
my sample 17C75x CERQUAD parts.

Are you planning on using the 17C75x in place of the 17C44 ??

No, I was planning to add ISP programming for the 17C75x parts.
