Does anyone have any information about a manufacturer/seller of smartcards
with 12c50x?

Good question. I would like to re-phrase that and ask:
Does anyone have any information about a manufacturer/seller of smartcards
with a PIC? Does Microchip offer their chips suitable for smartcards?
Thanks!

Hi,
here (in Hungary) there is a supplier which sell a 16C84/16F84 based
smartcard. There is a big disadvantage IMHO: an external clock must be
provided (not only xtal but oscillator), and there is only ONE (!) I/O
pin, and it is the RB.7. It is pretty expensive: about $12.
Regards,
Imre

How is it programmed ? I still think I need more then one Pin vor ISP ??
Kind regards,
Stefan

This is the case with all standard smartcards.

Hi,
yes, the question is o.k. There is another pin having a double
functionality: it is RB6 during programming (so it conforms ISP), and it
is CLKIN (!) when running. Sound ugly, but it is so... Silly, that there
are a lot of N.C.-s. Furthermore, there is a Vss, a Vdd and a MCLR. I have
objected, but you know the common answer: "if you do not like our product,
you need not to use it!".

Hi, I saw you entry on the PIC list
if you are interested in supplies of customisable Smart cards, we supply a
whole range of cards & reader writer equipment.
e.g 16F84 cards for £3.00 each
and we have the 12C508 cards
and we manufacture a special version of the 12C51x its not a true microchip
part, it a 12C519 with EXTRA eeprom, up to 8Kbits !!

Hi, at the risk of being flamed for advertising
We have many smart cards, some of which are PIC based
We have cards made to clients specifications from silicon supplied by us.

That's exactly the main issue with the 16x84 cards (see attachment).
There are usually two flavours: with/without (external - to PIC) EEPROM.

Not much more expensiver than a normal 16x84 chip.
Anyhow, the pinout and functionality of the 12c50x fits perfectly to a
smartcard. I am wondering just how long it will take for a manufacturer to
use this ones for a card.

Was on Your Website but there was no specific reference on it (maybe
CRNPIC8-XXX ?). Please send more detailed information.
Thank You in advance
