Following the excitement that followed the announcement that Everyday
Electronics would be publishing a Dolby Surround Sound processor project I
feel I should point out that the details are published in a FREE booklet
that is shrink wrapped with the magazine.  Anyone who orders this magazine
as a back-issue would be advised to check that the booklet comes with it
(especially overseas requests).

Would you be willing to copy the booklet and send it to me if I reimbursed
you for the copies and shipping?

Furthermore the project is based on a kit which has been designed by an
Australian company, 'Jaycar'.  The kit uses a special Dolby decoder IC which
(apparently) is not available separately, and can ony be purchased in the
kit, therefore the plans are mostly useless.  The restriction on buying the
chip is 'due to Dolby licensing requirements'.

I've been following this thread with interest for a while. Then this ...

And then it clicked. Jaycar is an Australian electronics firm catering
to the hobbyist market. I have their catalogue open in front of me. The
kit project was originally published in an Australian electronics monthly
magazine called "Silicon Chip", in Dec94 and Jan95. The features are
listed as

- stereo, 3 stereo, or surround selection
- normal, wideband (fullrange), or Phantom centre channel
- noise sequencer to set up balance between channels
- trim control for center and surround channels
- master volume control for all channels
- line outputs for each channel

The advertisement says "If you would like to read the two Silicon Chip
magazine construction articles for this kit, send us $5 and we will post
you a copy."

The short form kit (cat KC-5175) is $159.50 - includes everything
except a case (and a power supply). An enclosure kit and power supply is
$40.00 (KC-5176).

There is another kit with built in 20W amplifiers based on articles in
Silicon Chip in Nov/Dec95. KC-5200 is priced at $379.00.

The postal address for Jaycar is Jaycar Electronics PO Box 185 Concord
NSW 2137. Telephone (voice) +61 2 743 6144 (fax) +61 2 743 2066. Overseas
airmail is listed for New Zealand and Papua New Guinea as $8.00 to 500g,
and 500g and over, $19 first kg + $6 per kg therafter.

 All prices in Australian dollars.

(Usual caveats apply. I have no connection with Jaycar etc. Just
thought this might be of interest).
