Myke,
Following the complaints that some of the PICListers had I can see why you would
set up a page on buying books. Go to my home page and there is a link for a boo
kstore called "Op-Amp Books" (Technical Bookstore). I have bought books from the
m and are very satisfied with them. They have an excellent catalog. I am sending
this to the PICList so everybody can get the address. Go to

       http://www.geocities.com/researchtriangle/lab/6584/index.html

The link is at the bottom of the page. Good luck!!!

                       Best regards,
                       Steven

Hi Folks,

I called Op-Amp Books to get some information that was relevant to the
complaints about Amazon.com:

1.  They provide a 5% discount on books ordered through the internet with a
total order of less than $500.  For $500 and above, it's 7%.

2.  Currency conversion is done when the order is placed (same as everyone
else).

3.  Shipping outside the US uses DHL.  I had them quote on shipping
"Programming and Customizing the PIC Microcontroller" to Canada for
different quantities:

    1 Book  - $25.00 USD
    5 Books - $35.00 USD
   10 Books - $45.00 USD

4.  Delivery was quoted as at least one week (same as Amazon.com for the
"middle" option).

Along with DHL, you could have books shipped via FedEx which would be
overnight, but you would have to arrange shipping and FedEx would be $31.00
(Canadian) - I really know that value well (the 0.5 to 3.0 lb rate).

Op-Amp is actually quite a bit more expensive than Amazon.com (which offers
a greater discount and cheaper shipping) for ordering books from Canada.

Steve, thanx for the suggestion.  If anybody has any others, I would love to
hear about them.

Myke,

With all of this talk about ordering books via the WWW no one has
mentioned Computer Literacy Bookstores in the San Jose area.  They often
offer up to 30% discounts on technical books.  I have just received the
MCSE boxed set from Sybex at a huge savings (less $45.01) for instance.

Your PIC book and disk is offered at a 20% discount right now at:

http://www1.clbooks.com/asp/BookInfo/BookInfo.asp?theisbn=007913646X

I have no connection with CLB other than an extremely satisfied customer.

Hi Mike,

Thanx for the pointer.  Their prices are identical to Amazon.com's.

I'll add a pointer to them.
