Hi all,

I want to build some kind of UPS using the APC smart protokoll with a
pic with intergrated USB2.0 port.
I am looking for a godd description of the protokoll itself. Does anyone
has a assembler code or even a link for that?

Thanks

Jens

The best info I've seen on the APC SmartUps protocol is at
http://www.networkupstools.org/protocols/apcsmart.html

Thanks, there is much information, but only about RS232 connections.

I want to do that by USB. Is USB used only for "RS232-Emulation" at APC?
Or is it a real USB-connection?

RS232 over USB would make it much more complicate in Software, or much
easier, when using USBtoRS232 converter in front of the PIC ...

APC seems to be badly documentated ...

Best Jens

Take a look at the apcupsd project.  It's open source and supports APC
over USB.

There are also some linux-based open-source applications that talk to
APC UPS's... one could analyze their source code for how they're
handling the protocol... little reverse engineering...
