'[pic]: X10 RF protocol and PIC, how to communicate'

Hi,

I would like to interface a PIC to an X10 ON/OFF module (I am in the UK), but I cannot find the codes or a timing chart to be sent to the transceiver of the X10?

Has anyone achieved this?

How reliable are X10 products? (lighting strikes to nearby land?)

Finally are they a good product or due they cause a lot frustration in use?

Thanks Gary

I ran across a web page describing it in some detail a few years ago,
but failed to bookmark it.  The closest I have is the firecracker
(CM17A) protocol:
http://www.ubasics.com/adam/electronics/cm17.shtml

The two links on the page no longer work, though.  I suspect a google
search might find it, and the links may be useful if used in the wayback
machine.

I remember finding it after several hours of surfing and searching for
CM17A related webpages.

Good luck, let me know if you find it!

Hi Gary,

When you say interface a PIC to an X10 ON/OFF module, do you mean you want the PIC to transmit and control a transceiver like the TM751 / RR501?

If that is the case, the writeup on the firecracker (CM17A), as pointed out by Adam would indeed be the right article. Dr. Edward Cheung also has a description of the X10 RF protocol on his site.

I am attaching both articles here; a third, also very good article is at Dave Houston's site.

I have been doing a lot of work on 240 volt 50 Hz X10 receivers, and would love to exchange notes with all the X10 fans on this list.

Regards,

Anand Dhuru
