What does executing the "change width" command
(with your choice of wire width) do before running
the router?
(I thought that the width was specified on on
of those option screens that popped up!)

I just tried this.
change width .032; <enter>
auto; <enter>
and this had no effect as far as I could tell
I tried two commands at once and this doesn't seem to work either.
I tried the wire .032, then auto - doesn't do anything
I bet the default is set somewhere, but I can't find it.
thanks

What version of EAGLE?
In my version 3.55r(heaps of digits here), I simply click on the
"AutoRouter" icon and a dialogue box comes up. It's in there.
Cheers,

OK,
I've put net classes back to original, and will use min size, under DRC.
merci
and you know the entire auto router process seemed to work better,
with the thicker trace. for some reason, it made a much simpler solution
using top and bottom, -more elegant- than with the thinner wires.
interesting...
thanks all

Yes, autorouters can be that way. The thicker trace gives it more
restrictive rules to follow so it comes up with a better solution, not
just an "easier" one.

Thicker wires 'repel' each other more so the layout is more optimal wrt
the end points. One trick is to make traces the same width as pads. This
will cause a layout without any between-pins passes to be made. Excellent
for 'first time' boards, and ones that need to be reproduced later from
film at low resolution.
