'[TECH]:: Commercial & open source DIY gasifier'
2012\03\25@205419
by

An extremely worthwhile site to look at for anyone interested in
biomass gasification.
They sell commercial product + DIY kitsets + full open source CAD
files for their entry level / DIY system.
Basic system is available pre-built, or as kitset or selected parts,
or free open source files.

Worthwhile to note is their claim of " ... today you can find over 250
of our systems in 30 countries, supporting research in over 40
universities." in 3 years since startup
Anyone interested in this area needs to do a substantial amount of
prior diligence to get a feel for the likely success rates, effort and
costs with various planned feedstocks. Moisture content of source
material is a very major factor.
Their claim of being "the new global leader in small-scale
gasification" feels too much like hubris - but their results to date
at least add credibility to their claims of capability.

__________
They say:
ALL Power Labs is the new global leader in small-scale gasification.
We make gasifiers that are ready for everyday use, to serve real world
distributed energy needs.
Our project started with the open source Gasifier Experimenter’s Kit
(GEK), supporting research, education and DIY hacking in biomass
thermal conversion. Three years later it has evolved into the GEK
Power Pallet— a fully automated solution for personal scale biomass
power generation. Today you can find over 250 of our systems in 30
countries, supporting research in over 40 universities.
We invite you to join us for the ongoing collaborative process of
refining GEK systems, and proving gasification to be a uniquely
powerful solution for individual scale energy independence.
________
The Core Machine: Gasifier Experimenter’s Kit
The Gasifier Experimenters Kit (GEK) makes it easy for beginners and
experts alike to run high performance solutions in small scale
gasification and pyrolysis. Whether you’re a DIY enthusiast,
commercial user, or university researcher; the GEK will get you over
the starting hurdles and onto the more rewarding work of making clean
gas for power generation, or biochar for soil amendment. The GEK is
designed in a modular fashion for easy switch out between common
reactor types and operating situations. You can use the GEK to run an
expertly configured downdraft gasifier for fueling engines and
generating electricity and heat. Or you can use the same system to
create a multi-mode pyrolysis reactor (the BEK) for biochar making and
soil studies.
The result is a uniquely powerful “LEGO system” of biomass thermal
conversion. The GEK lets you deploy all the commonly discussed, but
rarely implemented, “expert solutions”– and does so at the
smaller-scale and lesser price needed for personal scale energy
projects.
Build it or Buy it
You can “build-the-GEK-from-scratch” using our FREE open source CAD
files. Or, you can make it a little easier on yourself by getting one
of our “weld-together” sheet metal kits. Don’t want a fab project?
You can also buy the GEK fully fabricatedand ready for final assembly
and firing on your end.For more information, see the GEK Basics page.
