Oh, and a suggestion: maybe some board + resonator pack for these......

Ryan

We will offer a 75MHz crystal separately that will fit in the 4 pin designated area.

Hey SXers,
Just checked with our production facility and these boards will be here on the 28th of June. Consistent with our plans, we will offer these at just over our cost. This means the retail price of the SX48 Proto Board (and the SX52 Proto Board) version will be $9.95. This makes no financial sense for Parallax but we think our SXers will be very happy. . . can you imagine how I justify this kind of marketing situation to the financial people who are involved in our business? I'd probably sound like a tongue-tied dope. Not to mention our key distributors - don't know how I'll offer them a discount on this product.

With the SX48/52 support in the free SX/B compiler you'll have all the tools you need to program this chip (and lots of them, please).

Sincerely,
Ken Gracey

The SX52 has 40 I/O pins (ports A-E), the SX28 has 20 I/O (Ports B and C and half port A), there are other features that the SX52 has (that the SX28 and below do not have) such as on board timers.

I have a question regarding the SX52 con carne, I know that it was always an under performer as far as sales are concerned. Once you release the protoboard, I predict that your sales of the SX52 con carne will shrivel up like a desert creek. If you decide to discontinue the SX52 con carne, will you release to the public the Gerber files for product? Using sparkfun's PCB service, a duplicate carrier board could be made for $5-$10 (depending if it is above or below 1 sq in). I can see situations where the I/O count of a SX52 is needed but the protoboard is too large of a form factor for the application.

Paul,
The SX52 Con Carne was discontinued. We were trying to sell it at nearly $59 for whatever reason. I don't even remember our logic - but it was before we were properly motivated by Ubicom to sell the chips. Combined with low-volume manufacturing something like the SX52 Con Carne wouldn't stand a chance. This time we'll do
I'll get the SX52 Con Carne Gerber files and post them here so you can "have at it" with the prototype services. Not a problem for us. Glad to see you using the chip.

Thanks Ken, just another confirmation that deciding on the SX development platform was a wise idea (thanks to Parallax's unparalleled support). I nearly got into the SX a year earlier, but I was seeking to bundle the SX-Key with a SX52 con carne (you guys said it wasn't possible outside of purchasing each individually). Money was tighter back then, so that hiccup delayed my taking the plunge by a year (while I cast about looking for an alternative only to finally conclude the SX was still the best choice).

Greetings SXers,

I received a few inquiries about the SX48/52 Proto Boards in the past day. Well, guess what? They're here!

I can't let you buy them until Friday, because we're currently closed for inventory count. Nothing is moving in the warehouses except people with clipboards.

In fact, to get these out of our receiving department I had to cross paths with a box in my arms in front of the Purchasing Manager and the Inventory / Warehouse Manager. When I left the dock the Purchasing Manager was doing aerial rounds with a wood golf club while saying "now, Ken, you are going to be bringing those back here soon, right?". My goal is to get them to John Barrowman for some test procedures so we can put them in inventory. They're counting everything. . .

Therefore, I expect we'll announce availability and on-line ordering on Friday. After that, we'll need to get a grip on your consumption so we can be sure to have adequate stock in the future. We're starting with 500 of each type.

That's the honest update.

The SX28AC/SS Proto Board has not gone to production yet. It is at least 90 days out at this point. It was forced to take a back seat for a while in consideration of other products in the pipeline.

Looks good Ken, but I'm not sure 500 will be enough. I plan on paying for at least a couple for myself, as I have 3 or 4 things in mind for the boards, and that proto area is going to fill up fast ;-)
The PnP machine would sure be nice for our lab here. Hand soldering LQFPs, 0402s, and SOT23-5s is getting old. I'm more interested in th emini oven off to the left tho. There's one part that's a BGA that I have no idea how I'm going to hand-solder. The batch oven died just after I started here and they haven't replaced it yet. Hopefully a SX28 and a toaster oven will be fixing that soon...

Incidentlaly, the Ping))) is working very nicely with my new BS2, and doing a red/green light indicator for my parking jobs in the garage. No more smashed trash cans!. Thanks again.
