Howdy...
Does anyone know where I could get a DC Jack that fits the SX Multiboard in the U.S. ?
I have an order with Digikey going out in a few days but I was unable to find it.
So if anyone know if they have it, that would be my first choice...

Do you need the male plug or the PCB one?
A search on google returns a 5.5 mm outer / 2.1mm inner dimension for the DIN 45323.
Mouser has them.
The male plug:
http://www.mouser.com/search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=171-3215-EXvirtualkey11180000virtualkey171-3215-EX )
The female (PCB) plub:
http://www.mouser.com/search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=16PJ101-EXvirtualkey11180000virtualkey16PJ101-EX
They have different models. Look in the "interconnects/ DC power connectors"

Hmm, I should have been a little bit more specific, my bad...
I'm looking for the PCB part which is female.
I think I need to do some more googling here since I'm having a hard time finding the dimensions for the pins that goes into the PCB.
Maybe it helps if I switch from Yahoo to Google...

Bamse,
Guenther included a jack with my multiboard. It looks very much like 'good German enginering'. Nonetheless I suspect the reason for the 4 holes, rather than 3, is to allow alternatives.

I didn't get the jack but the biggest problem I have is to find the dimensions of the wholes so I can figure out what kind of Jack I need...
DIN45323 seem to be the 2.1 mm plug that is used with the Parallax boards but it really doesn't say anything about the plug on the PCB.
The search continues...

Guenther knows. Send him a PM since your are having trouble. After all, he designed the board and I am sure he doesn't want you to struggle so much with its construction.

Bamse,
please find attached the drawing of the jack - it is a ROKA (German company) Type 5202550. All dimensions in the drawing are in mm. I have added a plus and minus sign to the pins that are required to feed in the supply voltage. All other pins are not connected on the SX28 MultiBoard.
I have also sent an eMail to ROKA, asking for their US distributor. As soon as I get an answer, or find another supplier in the US, I'll post a message here.

Hi Jamie,
I still haven't found a US supplier either, I would be interested in getting one from you if you should get some for Germany...

Jamie, and Bamse,
too bad that this DIN connector seems to be available in Germany only. I have sent an eMail to ROKA asking for their US distributor but unfortunately did not get an answer yet. Maybe, they have closed their office until January 2. In case I don't get an answer from ROKA, I'm going to send the required connectors to both of you. My daughter is heading back to the US on Jan 27 and she'll bring a supply of connectors with her. In case you or other users need more boards, she'll always ship them together with the connector in the future.
I expect that I'll need to order a new supply of boards from the PCB factory in the 2nd quarter of 2007, so I'll re-design the board before so that other connectors would fit.

Guenther, I am sending Bamse an alternative to the ROKA jack. It is a panel mount jack, but appears that it will work well. The only difference is the barrel plug opening is oriented up from the board rather that to the side.
If this is acceptible, I suspect it is an easy alternative for Americans [and Taiwanese].

Hi all SX28 MultiBoard users,
today, I got an eMail answer from ROKA. Unfortunately, they don't have a distributor in the US. They will ship products to any industrial customer world-wide, provided the minimum order is 2000 units. I think this is a "bit" more than we actually need :-) . So I think I'll proceed as proposed, i.e. send jacks to the users who already have the board, and add a jack to each board that will be shipped in the future.
George (Kramer):
Which alternative did you find? Could you please let us know the part number, and where it can be ordered? A picture might be handy too...

Hi Bamse, and Jamie,
today, I have sent the matching number of DIN jacks via airmail letter to both of you. Please expect the letters in about a week.
As mentioned before, future shipments of the SX28 MultiBoard will always include a DIN connector for each board unil I have re-designed boards available with fitting holes for other connector types. I'd like to use the connectors that can be found on many Parallax products. Funny as is, it seems difficult getting such connectors here but I'm sure at least DigiKey will have then, and they do a good job delivering parts to Germany in case I can't find a local distributor.

I've been soldering wires directly to the SX multiboard to power it, this will look a lot better...

I'm sorry Guenther, but photos seem pointless. After looking at how I am making the connector work [with bus wire], it seems to lack any finess. Though it does work in a pinch.
Taiwan is a bit odd as it is mix of European and American standards, but in this case I've only been able to locate the American parts.

Thanks Kramer and Günther,

Hey Bamse,
I'm glad that the ROKA jack finally made its way - it took a while, although I have sent it via airmail.
