I'm so bummed - I was hoping to work on a new project over the thanksgiving holiday.    Got my parallax shipment today sans SXs & SX-Key :-(
Oh well ... I'll have to go see what I can do with Christmas lights and my basic stamps instead.

Terrymr,
Order processing error on our part or were we out of stock? If the latter, that situation is no longer and we can get you the tools in time for the holiday without a problem. This way you'll have something do do when the relatives show up. Send me an e-mail kgracey@parallax.com and provide your sales order number so I can straighten it out for you.

Sincerely,

The SX28s came back in stock today. This is one heck of a dynamic situation. We get in trouble with our financial people when we have too much inventory, and our customers loose when we're short. The only way we could get this right is to hire a staff of callers and ask them to ring up every SX customer to ask about their planned purchases for the next eight weeks. That seems like a bad idea. . . doesn't it?

Oh well. Looks like you're all set for the holiday.

I'm a tech for an electronics manufacturing company. Excess inventory gets scrapped, while the sales department has fits when the same inventory get backordered. I can't complain though because my parts box always stays well stocked for free.

I just wish they would use, and scrap, some of the SX proto boards, a few hundred Basic Stamps, and a few dozen of the propeller boards. Oh well, we can't have everything.

BTW great service by Parallax! The service aspect was part of the reason I went with the SX instead of the PIC.

I'd be pleased to allow you all to visit our "excess inventory / expensed stock room" when you come see us at Parallax. There's another place, too, called our "eBay inventory" that's equally interesting. I always be sure that a visitor leaves with something of interest, for free.

I really like our products and tools, too, but my frequency of use is going down as time passes unfortunately. For example we buy a CNC mill, and I learn how to use it. Before you know it the mill is making robot parts and it's use prevents me from using it. Another example is the LPKF we're receiving next week. Our tech-heads are clammoring over it already, and they'll immediately be more adept on it than me. So I won't get to use it either. . . but maybe they can make my next board. . . And as far a the chips, boards and sensors are concerned, we're often too busy making them to have time to use them. Even though it's also my hobby, the family will view it with concern when Saturday and Sunday are also "Parallax" days. Our tech guys have the same problem, but some of them are really skilled at carving out hobby time at home (Chris Savage).
Now here's something a bit strange, too. Chip has rarely programmed the BASIC Stamp. Though he created it, our customers and staff can code it better than him for many projects. You will utilize every trick in the BASIC Stamp PBASIC 2.5 language to get the performance.

Ken,
What model of LPKF are you getting ?
I use one at work and I have one at home too.

They take a little while to get the hang of, but once you do they are very useful.
At work we have an electro-plater to create plated through holes (really nice).

Hey Henrymou,
I'll try to keep it in stock. It's a tough thing to do. The total lead time for wafer=>packaging=>testing takes no less than 16 weeks and involves three vendors in three countries, so it's a challenge. Volumes fluctuate dramatically, too. We never know when somebody will order a big batch of chips.

Anyway, a shipment of SX20AC/SS and SX28AC/DP arrives at Parallax next week, so we'll have all parts in stock.
