I don't regard short ads for companies providing products or services which are likely to be of interest to piclist members as a problem, quite to the contrary in fact. Some people seem to have a ludicrously nonlinear attitude to such things. Get over it. It is a problem when they don't follow list rules, such as properly tagging their posts. Spam is generally defined as Unsolicited Bulk Email. In this case one could argue that the PicList only allows (never solicits) ad-based email if and only if it is tagged with [AD]:. One could then argue that since it was sent to a list, it was bulk, but also that since they didn't take the time to find out how to post to the list then they are simply using it as their personal mailing list, and it is the same as if they mined the email addresses from the list and then sent it to each member. But it is on the edge. Additionally, it took me ages to find Crownhill. Before then I'd been buying PICs from Maplin for twice as much. In my experience they also have very good service with a quick delivery time.
