'[PICLIST] Wich is better?'

Hi Everyone,
Do you know wich is better, configured unesed pins as outputs and left
them with no conecction, or configure them as inputs with a fix voltage (5
or 0)... better in all senses, consuption, noise, etc...
Thanks in advance,
Gonzalo
P.S. sorry for my bad English :)

It is not wise to leave unused pins set as unconnected (floating)
inputs.
It is easy and cheap to leave them as unconnected outputs, possibly with
a connection pad to each of them for later use if need be.
You can leave them as inputs but probably better to use pullups rather
than tie directly to a supply rail in case the TRIS state changes to an
output and causes a short. Plus, by removing the pullups you have
connection pads for future pin use.

I always leave them unconnected and set them as outputs.
I figure that if I tie them to 0V or +5V and the program crashes and
sets them as output it could cause damage. Of course you could tie them
via a resistor.
Also sometimes an unused output can be useful for debugging - it would
be no use to you if it were wired to 0V or 5V.
Anyway I don't think it makes much difference either way.
Brian Gregory.
