I use to make many software errors and need to extract the PIC too many times.After sometime it has some bent legs. It would be a solution but the last resource. Use a socket stack: Put the PIC into a stack of 2 machine pin sockets. Then plug this stack into the socket on your board. Now, when you need to remove the PIC, take it plus 1 socket off the board. After a while the two sockets that you are repeatedly connecting/disconnecting will start to go bad. Just replace those two sockets in the stack and continue.
