When discussing the various CAD packages last week I recall someone mentioning that Eagle required a somewhat different perspective on the user's part. I have looked and found only drawing files that are labeled as tutorials, but no actual tutorials. Can someone give me a nudge in the right direction please? I think I mentioned the tutorials - as I had been using another package (7 yrs ago now?) and it was good to be guided step by step in the use of Eagle. At the time it was DOS based - the Windows version is easier to learn! I prowled CadsoftUsa's aite and found a tuturial in the form of a zip file. I just downloaded and Eagle and started using it. It might ahve helped that I had virtually no previous experience in circuit capture or PCB design. (IMHO using Vutrax does not count as such) I found Eagle very easy to understand, which is just as well, beuase the help and tutorial are absolutely useless (they talk about a sort of command line interface that has no relation with the mouse interface). Hi- 1/ I don't have a problem with the change feature. Choose: change, width, 0.04 (say), and left click on a board trace, it should immediately change width. You will need to touch each segment of the trace. You can define classes, eg power, and make them different widths. 2/ the cost items allow you to mofiy the behaviour of the autorouter, so if you want less vias, you just make them more expensive, etc. Sounds real simple ... 3/ to do single sided you set the prefeerences in the autoroute (1st page) - means you want this side to be horizontal traces, | vertical, / diagonal, * any direction, N/A NONE. Workable I suppose, but the parts list will start to build up and the name for the signal/trace won't be there from start to finish. I think using the bottom (blue) for the *real* trace and the top (red) for the 'jumper' traces is the way to go (or vice versa) - one can set the via pad size and drill size as required for the guage of the 'bridge' wire to be used. No, but there is a selection of pad shapes. While in the board layout, Edit>Design Rules>Shapes and you can override the pad shapes. I tried laying out a board with one layer, and it kept getting stuck. I manually inserted a trace with vias to the top, and then continued the autoroute. Hi, Joris! The method Jim mentioned works. You simply route on bottom side to the point where you want to have bridge wire, click once to stop there, then you click on LAYER window (you drag the wire with you, but that doesn't matter), click on TOP layer and continue routing. Signal wire will change colour and pad will be inserted there automatically. You route the bridge wire and then you once again change layer to BOTTOM the way I described before. You can change size and shape of the VIA pad by clicking EDIT/CHANGE, then SHAPE or DIAMETER or DRILL, choose what you want and left click on the pad. But I preffer to do that a bit differently - I first place pads ( before routing ) to the place I want that bridge and then route the wire the same way as above. There are also some autorouter control files that will create straight tracks on the top layer, useful for autorouting a 1-sided board.
