Dear all,

Would soemone tell me how to or is it possible to output HPGL disk file from
Protel99SE? It will be great if I can handle Sch and PCB.

Thanks in advance!

I've never worked with Protel but couldn't you install a printer driver for
an HPGL device and then just use the 'Print to File' function? (This
assumes, of course, that Protel uses 'normal' Windows output for printing,
YMMV.)

Regards, Bob

To do this you will need to set up an HP plotter in a printer driver, and
set it to print to file. When you print to that device there will be a
window pop up and ask for a file name to print to. This will work for any
application, and is not specific to Protel.

so...............................How to do it? Or any good HPGL driver for
me!

I do not know this one, try using an HP7475 plotter driver.

What do you mean by Camtastic?

Once you've generated the HPGL file, you've reached the limits of my
knowledge on the subject.

Is CAMtastic a Protel product?

Are you sure it can handle an HPGL 2 file? Might it only handle HPGL files?
I'm not familiar with the differences involved.

It may be time to contact Protel's tech support. (Although I hope they're
better on this product than they are on CircuitMaker/TraxMaker support.)

Regards, Bob

I'm a Protel 98 user so I can't help with 99se/Camtastic (all the printing
stuff changed).

However there is a Protel users mail list with a bunch of people who can
probably help you out.

To get on the Protel list go to:

Protel98 included a generic HPGL plotter as a PCB output device
but that is no longer available in Protel99SE. In the past I have
used the Windows HP7475 driver with Protel98 and it worked well. I
haven't loaded it on the machine with Protel99SE but I see no
reason why it shouldn't work.

> Is CAMtastic a Protel product?

It's a 3rd party product that Protel acquired and bundled with their
stuff. It is a CAM product similar to Cam350, GCPrevue (full
version), etc. You can use it to verify Gerber, Drill, DXF, HPGL
plots and also do panelization, add routing, breakoffs and all those
other things that CAD software tends to be not good at.

I'm not sure on this but I have a vague recollection that HPGL2 is a
mix of HPGL and HP-PCL (or some other bitmap capable scheme)
to allow inkjet (raster based) printers to be useful for plotter (vector
based) drawings.

There's a fairly active and knowledgeable users forum at
www.techservinc.com/protelusers/forumrules.html
There's also a searchable knowledge base on Protel's website.

Steve.
