Greetings,

what is the simplest way to detect a blown bulb ? maybe the indication
is an LED lit up ??

an easy way to detect this kind of problem is to put a neon across the
switch that turns it on (on a mains environment) or yes, an LED (and series
R) in a low voltage, DC one.

I regulatly use a neon across a switch and a neon across a fuse on dimmers -
this shows that the lamp is ok (this goes out when you turn the light on,
but the light is on, so you can see it working :-) and the neon across the
fuse helps by showing when the fuse blows (but only when a lamp is fitted)

If you really want to, adding a resistor to the fused live to neutral means
the neon will show blown fuse even with a blown bulb in curcuit.

Is it a mains powered lamp or, say, an automotive lamp? How is it
being driven?

well, it will be 12V dc bulb, operate when the switch turn on.

"simple" is a tough term.  What other circuitry are you using that we might
be able to steal in to?  (i.e. are you using a microcontroller with a free
i/o port).

The simple things are to detect the presence of light, heat, voltage drop or
current flow.  What other circuitry you are using might clue in as to which
way to go.

How about a button connected to your PIC labelled 'Press if bulb does not
work' :-)

Hello!

The simplest way (it seems so) is to check for example full voltage on the
switched off bulb!
                         ^+V
                         |
                         O bulb
                         |
check--^^R^^--+--o \-----gnd

Thanks,
Vladimir
