'[PICLIST] [EE] Network "level" use analyzer'

Hello,
Anyone heard about a "network performance tester" or something like
that, using a PIC ?
In fact, I would like to build something like that, but I can not
find information.
What I would like to build is a "Tester" that would tell me, for
example, the protocol in use, the number of wrong packets, etc, etc.
If you know anything, please, email me.

That is an awful lot of information to analyze in real-time using
a lowly PIC. Something I have been working on - in fitful bits and
pieces - are simple I2C and RS-232 real-time analyzers using a 20
Mhz PIC, but the PIC is just barely able to keep up. I hold fairly
small hope for doing anything more complicated than this.
