If you want to make a fuss

1. Know that you should tag messages appropriately
2. Know that this isn't a site, its a mailing list (at least
underneath all the sites that make it read like a forum etc)
3. Know that shouting doesn't get you anywhere
4. Contact the list admin if you have any specific problems

Are you talking about the web site at piclist.com?  If so - you're not
alone, I have tried editing/posting things on there several times and
have always been defeated.  It's a tremendously useful resource and
James et al. have put a lot of work and energy into it, so I am grateful
and not complaining.  There are lots of other ways to post code, and
posting a link on this list will help people find it.

If people have problems with piclist.com and don't tell me what the problem
is, how can I fix it?

I can tell you this: The wikispammers have NO problem posting junk on the
site that I have to clean up. David Carey edits pages on a regular basis. I
edit my own page there (as a user) quite often and have no problem doing so.
I post links and comments constantly.

Mr. Gross isn't telling us what IP address the system blocked, but I would
be willing to bet that it was listed at spamhaus et all as a compromised
system: One that is infected and has been used to send spam. Or he happened
to use a keyword that is very common in wikispam such as [URL] (piclist.com
uses html not wiki code, as the form clearly says).

And if you can't post something, for pete sake email it to me. It's not like
I'm hiding. My email address is everywhere... Just ask the spammers.

I know.  I know!  I think the problem is that, the times I've tried it,
I just get confused to the point where I can't even explain what just
happened, so I'm a bit embarrassed, a bit out of patience/time to spend
on whatever it was (say, correcting or adding something small on some
page), and not even sure how I would start reporting a problem...

Maybe the best way I can put it is that, while I'm immensely grateful
that it exists as a body of *content,* I don't feel confident that I
understand the *form* of the thing well enough to work with it.  Which,
again, is hard to say because it's just vague criticism, and I know you
put more work into it than you'd like and don't need extra vague criticism.

I have to admit too that I tried to get around the site a few days ago -
something I haven't done much of (I'm on email) and it was confusing. The
general idea I came away with was that I couldn't get my arms around _how_ the
site was organized so I could go to what I wanted, or even know what all was
there. Perhaps looking at it from the point of view of different types of user
goals - forum user, file searcher, PIC person, AVR person, etc and offering
quick structures for them to follow would help.

I'm not complaining... Since I don't have the time to help change it, I'm fine
with whatever you have. But since you asked... ;)

The search engine works pretty well, if slowly.
