are there any 16F88 based small dev kit available. don't need the one
with lcd just a simple one which has in-circuit programming feature
and small vero board type to expand circuitry. i managed to acquire a
handful of this chip cheap and now in the process of finding out if
there's any kit available that would let me start up with these. i
have checked online but couldn't find any. there's one from
blueroomelectronics but seems to be out of stock.

thanks.

The 16F88 is relatively compatible with a number of others... I believe if
you can find a kit for the 16F628(A) or 16F648(A) or 16F627(A) the 16F88
will work in it as well. You could even try a kit for the 16F84A, but in
that case you'd lose two pins that you might be able to use otherwise.

Greetings,
Maarten Hofman.

You can always try our 2-in-1 miniLab. It can be used as a universal development platform for DIP packaged PICs.

I think the PICKIT2 will program these.
