Whoops, my mistake, you just posted saying you saw my link. Sorry.
The best way to do crazy animations is to memory-buffer the LCD data
in RAM using a char array or whatever. Then you write your functions
to shift the display or whatever it is you want to do. Then you would
write the function to update the LCD using the data from the buffer
char array. This is really really easy.

'putc' is for putting a char, look for 'puts' in the manual instead.
