This is really strange - I can get to just about any site I select EXCEPT
http://www.microchip.com.
This always returns a "can not be displayed" error page.

I am in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania  Eastern USA ---
---is anyone else in the east having this problem, or is it something
strange going on at my ISP -- Comcast.NET?
That seems unlikely since I was having the same problem at work yesterday,
and that is a different ISP entirely.

Before I can solve the 18F4520 probelm I have to solve the problem of
getting the data sheet.

Whatever.

Roy

I'm in Philadelphia, PA, using Speakeasy as my ISP, and I don't have a
problem getting
to http://www.microchip.com.

I was also able to access it from work yesterday, though I don't know
who our work ISP
is.

Roy,  long shot but could be a browser issue on your end.  If DNS is
resolving the microchip.com address (on a linux box use "dig
microchip.com, not sure on windows, maybe nslookup in a dos window),
then its probably your browser.

On my mac (safari browser) I can reach the site but the url bar changes
to:

http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?
IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=64

after I connect.   I'd start with either dig or nslookup or something
to figure out if the address can even be resolved.  If its valid, try a
different browser perhaps.

Just a thought.

Doug

IE has error messages that are really uninformative. Try this: at a command
prompt type "nslookup http://www.microchip.com" and see if Comcast's dns server
can resolve the name. (I'm assuming you have windows nt or better.) I get
an IP address of 198.175.253.32 for microchip.com, so try typing in the
IP address if your dns servers can't resolve the host name.

Good luck, Matthew.
