Does anyone know how to program an 18F8620 using picstart plus?

Thanks

Hi,

Did I do something wrong? Why does anyone answer my questions?

Thanks

Dinho

Not that I can see.

Maybe because no one has done it yet?

Even though there are over 2000 subscribers on the list, sometimes it may take
a bit for someone to formulate a response.

Did you check the microchip docs as to what version on MPLAB and what firmware
revision of the PS+ you need? Do you have those?

Have you simply tried programming the 18F8620? If so what happened?

Generally a specific question or issue will get more attention than a general
one. In some ways you question below kind of sounds like "How's the weather
where you are today?"

Just some thoughts.

Thanks Byron,

I will try to rewrite my question. Tha 18F8620 is a TQFP with 80 pins
(there is only this type). Picstart has a ZIF with 40 pins. is there any
socket to convert it?

if not, what are the RB6 and RB7 pins in picstart that I have to use to
program this PIC using ICSP?

Thanks

Dinho

AHA! It's very unlikely that anyone has used that part due to form factor.
Most likely you'll have to create an ICSP style cable. A quick glance at the
programming specification doesn't indicate anything usual in terms of pins
used for programming. You may need to doublecheck to ensure that the
programming algorithm is exactly the same as the DIP/SSOP parts like the 18F452.

In any case your best bet is to create an ICSP cable. A 40 pin jumper cable
wired to a 8 or 10 pin header should be more than adequate. Just be sure to
keep the cable length short.

I'd pick the 40 pin ones because it's most likely that you'll be able to
program the part with a 18F452 selection. Just a guess mind you.

No problem. Good luck.

I use the '6720.  The programming algorithm is different I think.  I'm
using the Tech Tools Quickwriter 2.0 and I know they made a lot of changes
to deal with errata and such.

Yes, you need to do this one ICSP.

Hi Dinho,

Look here! I hope it will help you. If you need the Picstart+ schematics you
can download from here:
