Just did one myself.

Uses FDTI, 16F628, xtal, handful of passives and 1 transistor. High
voltage programs 12 18 28 and 40 pin PIC flash chips in a 40 pin ZIF.
Can also program most C series if external 13V supplied. Also has PC
control of MCLR.

Tony,

A or B series part?  Serial (232) or FIFO (245) chip?

Hi Andy,

B series - much nicer to work with.

232

As with all flash devices, overall programming time is decided by the
internal programming delays so a mega baud transfer interface is not
really warranted. Only my opinion :-)

The reason I ask is because I'm working on putting a 245B into a CAN
control system for a project at the office.
