Yes, thank you. With respect though Colin, I would not make one
from that diagram. Some text is illegible and I haven't found the FET

Mr. Barnard's statement above is not only negligently or maliciously libelous
and deeply offensive but also flat-out wrong. Quite an impressive
accomplishment for so few words.

I didn't look before, but you got me curious and I see what you mean. Do
you think we can teach this guy to say "white level", and to not eat his
sandwich over his schematic?

I am going to research whether I can draw a schematic on a sandwich

Oh, _hardly_, Russell.
Jan actually posted this link weeks ago elsewhere, and he's already
thanked me publicly and appropriately for the several times I've helped him
throughout his development processes (his intro to the 18F.K series),
so I hardly
think either of us need any "coaching" on how to conduct our communications.
To date our interactions have been effective, productive and marked
with far more
mutual respect and humor than is evident in this allegedly moderated
forum. Jan has
made amazing progress in a very short time. He probably cut a few
corners along the
way, and that's to be expected. It ain't the ceiling of the Sistine
Chapel, folks.
It's not always easy to provide free help when there are pressures
from many paid
and speculative business projects, but there is some apparent payback when the
results are made freely available as Jan did.

There's nothing whatsoever wrong with his diagram, and I suspect he intends to
leave it just as it is forever. It's free after all, and making it
easier to follow
might only cause him problems. It's obviously his original working
diagram, and it
looks just like the ones that I produce when in creative mode
(including the flux
stains), before I get another of my engineers or techs to beautify
it. It's GPL
and if anyone wants to improve on it, they're free to do so (provided
they follow
the GPL terms).
BTW, Jan is not particularly thin-skinned-- and he does tend to speak his mind.

I do tend to agree. The number of times such projects start as 'back of
cigarette packet', 'back of envelope' or 'table napkin' sketches are myriad.
Somehow I cannot quite conceive Olin doing a full CAD schematic and board
layout before starting on his helmet lamp. Maybe once the bugs are ironed
out and wanting to publish it on the web page then maybe the sketch does get
tidied into a CAD schematic.
Looks like a nice project, one that could be experimented with.

Indeed, a nice project. It gave me ideas...
I have a portable scope, but I think about giving one simple scope for
each of the company's field technicians, for trivial diagnostics. It
happens also that we use a lot of this model of display in our products
and we have lots of them in stock. But I think I would use some PIC32
devices I have lying around.
Congratulations to the author and best regards,
Isaac
