Subject: [pickit-devel] PICkit 2 V1.20 released
To: pickit-develspamKILLspamgooglegroups.com

PICkit 2 V1.20 has been released, expanding support for midrange
devices and a new family, the PIC18J devices.  The new midrange
devices include some newly released devices (16F631 & 16F677) and also
some 2 config word devices (16F87/88, 16F737/747/767/777).  The PIC18J
family also requires variable Vdd & Vpp and a new set of programming
commands.  These devices are programmed at 3.3V and may be damaged at
5V.

The source code is already up on the website in the usual location.

This is a strange sort of "release" - the source code is there, but not the object code, not just for the PC
application, but for the firmware!  The PicKit 2 page still shows the 1.1 firmware.  I don't expect many
people will want to compile it for themselves, even if they do have the C compiler (and a lot of people won't
have it).

I wonder why they haven't released it properly?  They must have compiled it themselves, so why not put the
files up?

They have some problem uploading the files. It will soon be there.
Apparently Microchip website is not the best managed so even
insiders have problem with their own websites.

It is, Thanks!

How did you find it?  (I went from the Home page to
Development Tools, then PICkit 2, and the stuff there is
still the older versions).

Looked at the format of the link to version 1.1, modified the file name to version 1.2 and struck lucky!

A caution to those who want to try out the new firmware under Linux:
It seems to me that this new firmware breaks pyk/pk2/piklab. This is a
bit strange.

I reported the problem here:
