'[PIC] PICKIT 2 Registration ??'

I recently bought a PICKIT 2 starter package. It came with MPLAB 8.3,
which I have installed and using as the with the free limitations. I am
assuming that now that I have a CD, that I can move to the full featured
version. Do I have to uninstall and the install from the CD, or is there
another way. :)

MPLAB does not have limitations nor MPASM. C18/C30 and PICC has the
limitations and I believe it will still be limited no matter if you install
it from the CD or from the downloaded file. Those are different products and
still need to buy the licence.

I don't believe there is any 'registration' or fee for MPLAB. In fact, it's
best to get the latest version from the web vs the CD, since the CD will almost
never be up to date, given it was produced <many> months ago.

Probably should have said the C18 compiler. Yea, I found it kind of
strange that MPLAB was current version that came out not too long ago.
The package came from Mouser. :) I haven't installed PICKIT software
yet. Have been busy designing a board to handle the IR remotes for TV,
Dish, etc.

If you are Windows Registry wise you can make the C18 compiler think it is
registered, and it will accept updates. I haven't checked if the later
versions will still refresh the trial period with another install, or if the
fiddled registry still gives full optimisation.

Okay, I'll take the chance that the PIClist police will cut me off:

I suppose neither you, nor the person who "enlightens" you, will have any
objections to someone stealing your money-making hardware designs or code,
if and when you have any.

Hi Carl,

The Piclist is not a forum for soliciting this type of thing.

You may also find that some people will take a big dislike to your
question.

Sorry about that, wasn't thinking in that direction, maybe was brain
dead at the time. I try very hard to remain ethical honest, and giving
credit when due.  My original question was, after refining , could I
after purchasing the PICKIT 2, use the time limited refinements of C18
for an extended time, by registering,  but after reading a couple of
replies, realized that MPLAB, and the C18 compiler were separate
packages, which slipped by me.
